After a crazy week and an even crazier Friday, we decided to keep things simple and visit New China Buffet in Melrose Park, IL. This restaurant is always busy on Friday and Saturday nights because of the all you can eat buffet and the crab legs offered on those nights.

We began with soft drinks and water for the kids. I enjoyed the seafood stir fry with imitation crab, shrimp and zucchini. I also had some stuffed mushrooms and crab ragoons.

My husband always enjoys the seafood and fish—baby octopus, clams, mussels, salmon, white fish, etc.

My son started out with his favorite, noodles, both brown and white, corn and brown rice. (His next plate was more nutritionally balanced!)

My daughter was happy with the macaroni and cheese, brown noodles, salmon and broccoli.

The crab legs are the big draw on Friday and Saturday night; it is not unusual to see people stand in line at the buffet waiting for the crab legs to come out and then walking away with a heaping plate, leaving few for the other people in line. My husband did manage to get two plates of crab legs, which we all (except my daughter) enjoyed.

My son’s next plate was filled with veggies—broccoli, baby corn, and zucchini, and he also had a few pieces of their sushi. I find their sushi a bit bland and not that tasty, but my son enjoyed his.

This buffet runs $9.99 for adults for dinner on Friday and Saturday night and all day Sunday. We had a 20% off coupon for adult purchases from a Valu-Pak mailer that came in the mail a few weeks ago.

We paid $19.98 for two adults, minus the 20% off (4.00) = $15.98
3.99 for my son (children 3-5) (my daughter was free)
2.00 tax
3.00 tip for a total of $24.97

We saved 4.00.
