It’s been a few weeks since the last round up, things have been busy here on FH as well as at home. But things should be getting back to regular scheduled programming.

Weekly Review

Everyone always wants to know “how can I be a successful investor” and every time I have to remind people that there is no hidden secret to investing as long as you follow a few simple investing principles. Million Dollar Journey is running a series on the principles of investing with the first one being faith, personally I think this is a major principle.

It seems like the recent real estate bubble in the US has not taught Canadians much of a lesson, an interesting discussion is going on at Canadian Capitalist regarding consumers opting for minimum down payments and 35 year amortization, are we heading for a real estate disaster as well?

Emerging market ETFs have provided investors with an easy and cost effective way to access the emerging markets. This ETFs have seen cash inflow over the last few years but Jason Zweig @ WSJ believes these ETFs maybe causing an emerging market bubble.

The Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) introduced at the beginning of this year has been very successful. It provides Canadians over the age of 18 $5000/year in tax free contribution room, although the account has received a very warm welcome from investors some believe it could be better. Rob Carrick @ The Globe & Mail discusses some suggested changes that could potentially make the TFSA better, personally I like the current structure and its simplicity.

I am sure you have heard of leveraged ETFs that provide 2x or 3x the market exposure such as the Horizons BetaPro, what if there was an ETF that would provide 10x leverage? or even 100x would you be interested? Jonathan Chevreau @ Financial Post discusses a somewhat surprising result of a fictional 100x ETF.
