Under Authorized User, the article states: "This allows a second person to use your credit card but they are not responsible for the payments and the information does not go on their credit report."

I have to disagree with that statement. My husband put me on several of his cards as an authorized user (to get rewards points). I just reviewed my 3 major credit reports from the 3 reporting agencies (August 16, 2011) and in case, the full information about his cards, payment history, etc., is on MY credit report as an authorized user. I may not be legally responsible for the debt, but it sure is reported on my credit reports in black and white!

Correction:

After researching this information for 2010, it seems as though an Authorized User can benefit from another's account, or their score can be lowered, but they aren't financially responisble for debt (certain exceptions in certain states for spouses). Also Experian and some lenders dont report negative info.

AU's use of the credit card does reflect in their CR's. ( As long as the CCC reports AUs, which most major CCC do ) The good and bad, as well as the original date that the CC was opened, regardless of when the AU was put on the account.

my only input is be careful when adding someone to your account or signing up with them. their is a lot of responsibility that goes into this but if you have taken the time to ask the tough questions and air your concerns then go for it, it can be a good thing.

Keep in mind also, I know Authorized User (=Supplementary card) holder does NOT get a credit history

I think a Joint CC = both holders get a credit history
But I actually never see a Joint CC advertised, normally just Suppl. Card
