Stop Acting Rich

While at a wedding a few weeks ago I noticed a family member park beside us in his new Porsche Cayenne, on our way my sister said “I hope one day I’ll be as rich as John is, he is loaded!” I started to laugh and asked her how she knows that, “Did you see his car, that car costs at least $65,000.” I just smiled and tried to explain to her that driving an expensive car is not a sign of one’s financial success. For most people cars are a sign of financial well-being, the more expensive the car the wealthier the driver, however there is no data that would support this conclusion. On the Contrary Dr. Thomas J. Stanley has shown us that the real Millionaires do not drive expensive cars. In his new book: Stop Acting Rich: And Start Living Like a Real Millionaire Dr. Stanley discuss is recent data about real millionaires.

What is Stop Acting Rich: And Start Living Like a Real Millionaire

If you have read Dr. Stanley’s previous books such as The Millionaire Next Door you will notice the similar theme throughout this book. In this book he compares real millionaires and those who act like millionaires, he compares what type of vehicles they drive, the clothing they wear and even how much they spent on wine. Dr. Stanley points out that real millionaires do not drive imported luxury cars, nor do they spend hundreds of dollars on wine bottles. Contrary to popular believe Dr. Stanley concludes real millionaires are frugal and mainly drive Toyotas and Hondas while enjoying $40 wine.

What I Like:

  • Easy to Read: The book is very easy to read and follow, there no jargons and he uses many examples to clear up the points.
  • Data: I enjoy reading studies and seeing real data, the author uses a large amount of data to back up his claims and observations.

What I Don’t Like:

  • Repetitive: I felt like reading the same thing over and over again, very repetitive content.
  • Old News: If you have read the author’s past books, than you will not find a lot of new information in this book.

Conclusion:

Although I very much enjoyed Dr. Stanley’s previous book The Millionaire Next Door, I was very disappointed with this book. Most of the content is repetitive and not very useful; this book can safely be skipped.
