Happy Birthday Grace.
Unfortunately, I am already turning 29 this summer.
A great tip to young people is to save and earn.
Saving is good but investing is better.
We should not just hide money but earn money.

@Craig....Agree with you on that....budgeting should be taught at a young age.

@Maxwell....Good job with the TFSA....now fund it when you can...it'll go a long way when you done school....I agree with your credit card suggestions, however so many students fall victim to CC's so I rarely see a disciplined enough student to apply those strategies properly. I fell for that trap and had about $5000 in CC debt alone when graduated....I have paid the price for it

This is a great article and is exactly what I was looking for. By the way, I opened my TFSA two months after I turned 18. The part about credit cards is very true. I have done my best to use it like a debit card, only charging for amount that I have available. I think they are a great asset if you can get one that has cash back or other rewards, and then pay your tuition using it. Of coarse the most important part is that you have the money to pay the tuition charge, if not the interest will really hurt you, and a loan is probably better.

If my kids got through their 20s and knew how to budget and work I'd consider that a sucess. Budgeting is so important for young people. There is no point in working until you first know how to manage the money you have.
Great post.
